Reading aloud in our nursery in Vicenza

Has been  proved that reading aloud,  in addition to facilitating the learning of independent reading,  stimulates the ability to recognize and use the sounds of the mother tongue. Children to whom their parents read with a certain regularity have a greater property of language which, from a cognitive point of view, corresponds to a greater ability to understand and a deeper desire to learn.

  The "Born to read" project  aims to promote reading aloud to children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years. (www.natiperleggere.it ).

The Biopappamondo Nursery School has joined the “Born to read” project promoted by the ULSS 8 of Vicenza. In addition to participating in specific training seminars, we have in fact implemented a series of initiatives aimed at stimulating children to read. Here is a summary of what we do:

• Inside the kindergarten we have created a physical space dedicated to reading "Tappo's library" where there are books for all age groups

• Reading aloud has become part of the routine  (typically before bedtime)

• Reading aloud is an integral part of our educational project and has a day dedicated to it "Wednesday"

The children are encouraged by the educators to choose books that they can browse or that are read by the educators themselves.

We wish  that these actions favor the development of a fundamental competence, so that the relationship of children with books can become solid and continuous, that is the competence of readers, meaning by this that which gives rise to the pleasure of reading as a pleasure in itself. And pleasure constitutes an educational dimension to be safeguarded, since in it lies a crucial precondition for stimulating interest and, with this, for encouraging learning.
